GHR 2017 Q4: Love/Hope

Dear Facilitators,

Creating the materials for this quarter has felt like trying to hit a moving target. We began by trying to create a response to all the hurricanes, global floods, earthquake, fires in the upper Northwest and California and the Las Vegas shootings. And now, I must include the hurricane in Ireland.

The GHR was created eleven years ago and we have never had a period of time when so many events happened consecutively like this. After discussing this dilemma with fellow facilitator, Jan Mahood, I wondered if the materials for the entire fourth quarter should be approached like a response. Perhaps we could plan to walk the labyrinth globally on three dates: October 22, November 22 and December 22 at 2 pm wherever you reside.

If you can’t plan a community walk, how about doing a walk in solitude or with a friend.  You could even do a finger labyrinth. (click here for a PDF finger labyrinth)

Our world is in great need and, therefore, we are all in need of healing each other; those who are experiencing great upheaval from the disasters and those who look on not knowing how to help. Please take a few minutes to read an article that I feel is very hopeful about what is possible in our community of facilitators. It will show you that we CAN make a difference.

Thank you, again, to Jan Mahood for her help and vision with these materials.

Thanks for all you do to make the world a more loving place.

Peace & Healing,

Ellen

Focus:  Hope

Quote: Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope. Maya Angelou

Picture/Symbol:  Rainbow

Color: White—for bringing in white light of healing, blending of all color

Prayer/Meditation:

As we look to the East each morning, to the rising sun, may we begin again with hope.
May we feel the hope that is sent with each donation given.
May we feel the hope in the acts of the survivors, helpers and heroes.
Renew OUR hope by their strength and courage.
And so, like Hope, we will Rise.

Focus:  Faith

Quote: Faith makes all things possible… love makes all things easy. Dwight L. Moody
Picture/Symbol: A Leap of Faith

Color: The rainbow

Prayer/Meditation:

Faith is the refusal to panic.
It’s the setting of an alarm clock, it’s the “see you later.”
Faith is in a parent’s hand when giving a teenager keys to a car.
It’s boarding a plane or bus or boat.
Faith is trusting a vision to the next step. It’s a leap.
It’s now.
It’s fueled by love.
Let our daily acts of faith help us see that we can have faith in our world…
And each other.

Ideas for benefiting organization: Goodwill, Salvation Army, thrift stores—Encourage your walkers to donate or purchase.

Ideas for ambiance: Stones that allow us to stay centered and grounded.

GHR 2017 Q2: Love/Light

Dear Labyrinth Facilitators and Healers,

The focus for this Spring quarter of the GHR is Light. I have to admit that it was set to be Wisdom and at the last minute, Jo Ann Mast and I felt sure that Light was more appropriate. Not just the idea of shining light for others—or even reflecting it— but also to BE Lighter. The world feels heavy now for many reasons.

When I introduced the GHR in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina our responses were to disasters and other global events that needed healing….one at a time. Now it seems we are hearing events everyday that could warrant a Global Healing Response. (As I write this I am hearing news of the chemical attack in Syria where many of the victims are children.) That realization feels heavy to me. Thankfully, we have our GHR yearly theme and focus to use continually and the world has folks like you to offer modes of Healing, Centering, and Sacred Spaces. Thank you for all you do.

As always, our intention is that these materials will help you plan an intentional labyrinth walk that when joined by others doing the same thing globally will have a unified effect of Healing for our world.

In Light and Love,

Prayer/Meditation:

Divine Power
“To give love from the heart and to receive love
To be the light and project the light
To know yourself and thus know spirit
I am part of you and you of me
The seeds of yesterday,
Today and tomorrow have been painted
Now we must learn to nurture,
To love to overflow with Spirit.”
Light your faces with a smile.

GHR 2017 Q1: Love/Courage

Dear Labyrinth Facilitators and Healers,

I am so happy to let you know that the theme for 2017 is LOVE. The planning for this year and this quarter are a great example of how the Global Healing Response is an organic creation. Jo Anne Mast and I had agreed at the end of the year that we needed a theme of LOVE. In fact, it hit both of us like a ton of bricks one morning—the same morning. And then, we developed the quarters. We knew we would need courage to face what was ahead of us after the US election and its effects around the world. We just had no idea how much courage. Sigh.

The Women’s March that I attended in Chicago was a Lovefest and has inspired me to see how strength can be rooted in Love, support and hope. I know many of you have had the same experience. The GHR walks that happened on January 15th for Standing Rock, thanks to Robin Dilley, were inspiring and the issue continues to be so important! The intense yet calm eyes of our image, the lioness, feel like a great energy to hold on to. Thank you, Rev. Warren Lynn, for the photo. The meditation that Judith wrote is going to be taped on the left side of my computer at work. I think it is beautiful and inspiring.

One of my favorite quotes is by Annie Kirkwood, “Peace on earth lies only in the hearts of peaceful men, women and children.” We are each responsible for the Peace and Love that surounds us right now. If you are like me, and have to resist the overwhelming feelings of fear, sometimes this takes courage. It takes courage to stay awake to what is happening and not bury your head in the sand and yet balance that with a calm trust that the Universe works for the good. Our quote for the quarter feels absolutely right and I thank the powers that be for bringing it to me.

The labyrinth is the perfect vessel to help us stay rooted in Love and find our Courage and community. I’m sure there are amazing courageous acts of faith (peaceful marches, phone calls to legislaters, creative art, gatherings, and more) that will be revealed to us.

We are the leaders in this movement of LOVE. This is what we have been trained for. We know how the labyrinth can help an individual, heal a community and reveal possibilities. Let’s share our knowledge and wisdom.

With that said, please take time to take care of yourselves. Don’t let your vessel become empty. We need you!! Feel free to share these materials with anyone who might be interested.

With Loving gratitude for all you do that will lead to acts of Courage,

Prayer/Meditation:

A Prayer for Courage
May we find a glow of light
deep in the place of courage, just below the heart
where the breath swells
and the spine straightens
May we remember our strength
And the strength that multiplies in the circle,
in the crowd, in the People
May we kindle a fire of hope
in our words and deeds
Stoked by our belief in freedom, justice and love
May we know the power of deep listening,
find the balm of compassion,
Know the power
of right timing
of right action
May courage find us worthy companions
And accompany our walks, our commitments and our prayers.
