GHR 2013 Q4: Truth/Beauty

Global Healing Resource Q4

2013 Theme: Truth

“Let us not love with words or speech
but with actions and in truth.”  I John 3:18

October-November-December

Focus:   Beauty

Quote: “‘Beauty is truth, truth beauty,’ – that is all ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.” —John Keats

ColorPurple

Prayer/Meditation:

The Truth is our human soul is hungry for beauty; we seek it everywhere—-in the landscape, music, art, clothes, furniture, gardening, companionship, love, religion and in ourselves.  When we experience beautiful, there is a sense of homecoming. Some of our most wonderful memories are of beautiful places where we felt immediately at home. We feel most alive in the presence of the beautiful because it meets the truth of our soul.

In the experience of beauty we awaken and surrender at the same time. Beauty brings a sense of completion and sureness. Something ancient within us trusts this.

Truth is, given the current national and global crisis; our lives hold anxiety and uncertainty.  In the heart of people some natural ease has been broken. Our trust in the future has lost its innocence.

It might sound naïve to suggest it is the time to invoke and awaken beauty. Yet that is exactly what we can do.

The time is ripe for beauty to surprise and liberate us. Beauty is a free spirit and will not be trapped by the ego. The wonder of the beautiful is its ability to surprise us. With swift, sheer grace, it is like a divine breath that blows the heart open

In the light of beauty, courage is awakened. You are invited to explore ways beauty can surprise you, and restore hope in your hearts.

Ideas for benefiting organization:

Bring the joy into other’s lives by noticing and acting on opportunities for sharing through local food banks and homeless kitchens and thrift stores (where you can shop & donate).

Ideas for ambiance:

  • Walk an outdoor labyrinth in the chill of an autumn or winter evening.
  • Dance the labyrinth with colorful scarves, or flags or ribbons.
  • In a few words write about where beauty is in your life and carry this into the labyrinth.
  • Or what does beauty look like to you?

GHR 2013 Q3: Truth/Authenticity

Global Healing Resource Q3

2013 Theme: Truth

“Let us not love with words or speech
but with actions and in truth.”  I John 3:18

July-August-September

Focus:   Authenticity

Quote:  “Only the truth of who you are, if realized, will set you free.”— Eckhart Tolle

Color:  Green as in the saying, “As sure as the grass is green.” It symbolizes the truth, honesty and authenticity.

Prayer:

In this time, when even nature is confusing, may we allow the wisdom of our authentic selves to come forth and show us the way.

In order to find the authentic we must often peeling layers, opening doors, let go. May we have the courage to begin that search and honor what we find.

May we look to each other and have the wisdom to see the purpose of being that lies beyond what sometimes feels unauthentic.

May we find comfort in nature and its inability to be anything but authentic.

In the events of the days may we work with groundedness. In the events of the night may we rest with the peace of truth. And with the thoughts of eternity, may we know our connections with each other are always rooted in the center…in authenticity.

Ideas for benefiting organization: The Red Cross, for the victims of natural disasters in the recent months.

Ideas for ambiance: Rocks, grasses, real flowers, sand, dirt. All that symbolizes the ground and grounding

Music: “Homage”  by Judith Tripp. (http://www.circleway.com/products.htm) A compilation of solo flute pieces performed by Judith Tripp, recorded live at various sacred sites in England and France. Included are Judith’s musical responses to the inner circle at Stone Henge, Merlin’s Cave at Tintagel, The Chalice Well Garden and Abbey Kitchen at Glastonbury and the Crypt at Chartres Cathedral.

I hope you find them useful and have time to plan a walk or personally walk with these intentions sometime this summer. The picture is taken from my backyard and I am excited to share my labyrinth with all of you. Happy summer to those in the Northern hemisphere and I hope this bit of green brightens the day of those in the Southern hemisphere. I love being a global community!

GHR 2013 Q2: Truth/Peace

Global Healing Resource Q2

2013 Theme: Truth

“Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”  I John 3:18

Q2: April-May-June
Focus: Peace

Quote:  “Without trust, there can be no genuine peace. Neither in politics, nor in the quiet individuality of the heart and spirit.”―Timothy Zahn, Vision of the Future

Color:  Blue

Prayer: Peace in the Present Moment

Peace is not a matter of faith; it is a matter of practice. We need only to find ways to bring our body and mind back to the present moment so we touch what is refreshing, healing, and wondrous.
In the Buddhist tradition, every time a bell rings, you are invited to breathe in saying silently, “listen, listen,” and when breathing out, say, “this wonderful sound brings me back to my true home.”
Our true home is in the present moment. To live in the present moment is a miracle, walking on the green earth in the present moment, and appreciate the peace and beauty that are available now. Peace is all around us—-in the world and in nature —and within us—in our bodies and our spirit.

Walking the labyrinth breathing in, taking deep breathes allowing ourselves to walk mindfully, touching the earth with each step. We don’t need to wish our friends, Peace be with you”.
Peace is already with them. We need only to help them cultivate the habit of touching peace in each moment.  Make way for Peace and it will be found.

GHR 2013 Q1: Truth/Faith

Global Healing Response Quarterly
2013 Theme: Truth
“Let us not love with words or speech
but with actions and in truth.”  I John 3:18

January-February-March
Focus:   Faith

Quote: “All the world is made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust.”—J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

Picture/symbol: Snow, the next best thing to pixie dust!

Color:  White

Prayer

FAITH

“I want to write about faith, about the way the moon rises over cold snow, night after night, faithful even as it fades from fullness, slowly becoming that last curving and impossible sliver of light before the final darkness.
But I have no faith myself
I refuse it even the smallest entry.
Let this then, my small poem, like a new moon, slender and barely open, be the first prayer that opens me to faith.”
—David Whyte

Somewhere between the belief in the magical powers of fairy dust imbued in Tinker Bell and David Whyte’s poem on faith, exists our faith and trust in certain truths.
In these chaotic and uncertain times, we greet & welcome the winter season opening wide the door of wisdom, wakening to the abundance, and warmth of our core being.
In less technological times, before the days of central heating, earth’s children gathered around a blazing fire to find warmth. They found another gift, the great blessings of family and friends, and the warmth of the circle of companionship that frightens away the worst beasts that haunt our human heart.
May our community of family and friends gather around the light and warmth of the labyrinth as we support each other in this time of renewal, when freedom of spirit, and clarity can be experienced.
Let’s not forget to honor the gods of thermostats and tinderboxes invite them to be our Faithful friend and Fire-maker until the light of Spring. —Jo Ann Mast

Ideas for benefiting organization:  Make a Wish Foundation, www.wish.org.

Ideas for ambiance around the labyrinth: White candles, white twinkle lights, outdoors in the snow, if possible!

GHR 2012 Q2: Balance/Truth

2012 Global Healing
Theme: Balance
“Balance is Beautiful.” Miyoko Ohno

April-May-June
Focus: Truth

Quote:  “Truth, like gold, is to be obtained not by its growth, but by washing away from it all that is not gold.” —Leo Tolstoy

Picture/Symbol: Daylily labyrinth; we may marvel at the beauty of a daylily blossom, but the real sustaining life is in the lily’s bulb. Brilliant blossoms and the leaves’ greening truth are only a manifestation of a healthy root system.

Color:  Green, like the fourth Chakra, the heart

Prayer
Oh, Fertile Soil of our planting, let us not revel in our blossoms but rather attend to the health of our rootedness. Let what emerges from our true center come as an expression of a deeper health and wholeness, not merely a vanity of arrogance and pride. But, indeed, may that which cannot help to bloom from a healthy grounded center – do so in all truthfulness. May our flowering be of honest confidence; our beauty one of extravagant generosity; our belief based not on the glory of our single pursuit, but rather in the greater bounty and glory of the wider human garden. Amen

Ideas for benefiting organization: Any organization that helps empower the truth of ecological balance. A few examples include:

Wild Europe — http://www.wildeurope.org/
Greenpeace — http://www.greenpeace.org/
Nature Conservancy — http://www.nature.org/
Sierra Club — http://www.sierraclub.org/
The Wilderness Society — http://wilderness.org/
National Resources Defense Council — http://www.nrdc.org/about/

Ideas for ambiance:  This is a season of new growth and floral bounty. Stage the greenery of planted palms, ficus and other indoor plants to portray the labyrinth in a garden setting. If your labyrinth walk will take advantage of the great weather of this season, outdoors, prepare the surrounding area to take full advantage of this season’s greening, perhaps staging some potted flowering plants around the labyrinth that may be permanently added later to the landscape is an idea that will work for you. Another idea is to provide a container of cut flowers in water near the labyrinth’s entrance, and invite walkers to take a flower home with them after the walk; a wet paper towel in a baggy is a good way to get a cut flower home in good shape.
