GHR 2018 Q4: Light/Lighten Up!

Dear Facilitators,

Let’s talk about JOY, happiness, smiles, laughter. Let’s do our friends, family and world a favor by bringing gratitude, fun (maybe even a joke?) to the table of healing! As our quote says, “Laughter is a sunbeam of the soul.” We can’t get much brighter than the sun. Let’s take a break from despair and lighten the load for each other. Might be the perfect way to end the year.

Thank you to The Rev. Warren Lynn for writing our two part meditation this quarter. Personally, I am printing the meditations on two sides of a card. The first part to be read when walking into the labyrinth (lighten your load, brighten up your own shadows) and the walk out can be used to send compassionate intentional energy out into the world for others.

I have been researching intention energy from the viewpoints of quantum physics to chakras. I believe compassionate intention amplified by a group can change the world. I have created a model for holding a Global Healing Workshop with the labyrinth that can be used for community or universal healing. Let me know if you are interested in knowing more. Hopefully I will see some of you at the Labyrinth Society meeting this weekend where I will be presenting this model and implementing it. Exciting stuff!!

Peace, Love and Joy,

Walking into the labyrinth….
Walk into Lightness
The peace of All Peace be mine on this path.
Let all tumult of life’s storms within me cease.
May the weight of heavy burdens release;
The diminishing shackles upon me drop free from my soul
May True Light illuminate the habitations of my dark shadows, setting me free from all forms of suffering.

Walking out of the labyrinth…
Send Forth Healing
Envisioning what Light, Peace and Love is needed in the world beyond me,
I send empowering energy outward, beyond myself,
Into the shadows, storms and suffering all around.
By my actions, relationships and ways of being
I will participate in the greater community of healing in this world.

GHR 2018 Q3: Light/Shine Your Light for Others

Dear Facilitators,

As this time of year brings a warmer and brighter earth (at least for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere), let our lights shine brighter, too. As our meditation points out, we can bring our lights to the darkness and also warm those places that are cold. It may take courage (lots of courage) to illuminate the dark, but we can do it! We have the tools of the labyrinth, our community with each other and our communities where we live.

Keep your light burning glowing with lots of self care. It’s easy to “burn the candle at both ends,” as they say. One person doesn’t need to handle the burden of all the problems—Many candles make a bright light.

Thank you for all you do in the world!

Peace & Healing,

Ellen Bintz Meuch

I share my light of love so that I may
…Illuminate a path for those who are stumbling.
…Brighten a dark corner where fear incubates.
…Glow for those who have found too much comfort in the darkness.
…Warm a heart that has grown cold.
…Torch injustice and blaze luminous beams on a situation that has slipped away from integrity.
…Shine with others to create a rising sun of hope for peace everlasting.

Ideas for benefiting organization: I found a very interesting organization called “The Compassion Games”. They have an opportunity to “Build a Global Fire.” Read about it here:

Ideas for ambiance: Begin the walk in near darkness, as the walk progresses, turn the lights on slowly. Or, have each person hold a votive light that is electric. When they feel their light “shine.”

GHR 2018 Q2: Light/See the Light in Others

Dear Facilitators,

Spring is on its way in the Northern Hemisphere. The days are becoming longer, we are having more light. Yay! Our focus for this quarter is “To See the Light in Others.”

We all know those people who light up a room just by entering it. It’s easy to see their light. But, sometimes it isn’t so easy. Especially if we have to search through differences, hurts and misunderstandings in order to see a spark. If we just remember, there is always a light.

I think it is very powerful to know that someone “Sees” you, “Sees” your light. When this happens, it can (pun intended) BRIGHTEN your day! So, let’s look for the light in others and brighten our corners of the world just a bit.

Peace & Healing,

Ellen Bintz Meuch

If there is breath in a being, there is also a light.
May we remember this and see it, even if
Life has dwindled the other’s light to a spark or
Flamed it to a warm fire that shines bright.
Either way, look for it in the other. Find it.
We all need to hear, “I see your light.”
Breath these words on their eternal embers.
For in those words are the witness of the
Hope, Love, and Beauty of the connection of life.

Ideas for benefiting organization: Chicago Lights Tutoring, Fourth Presbyterian Church, Chicago, Illinois
This organization tutors disadvantaged youth in Chicago. Our own Veriditas facilitator, Janice Lewis, is doing great work to introduce Peace practices via the labyrinth to the children.

Ideas for ambiance: Candles! Or, flashlights if you can dim the lights for your walk. Perhaps some kind of light for each person to carry with them as they walk the labyrinth.

GHR 2018 Q1: Light/Shine Your Light

Dear facilitators and friends,

Welcome to 2018! The theme for this year is LIGHT. We will explore letting our Light shine—and the courage that takes— and we will talk about shining our Light in a dark place —and the courage that takes, too. We will also work to see the light in others and finally, Lighten Up!

I love the meditation for this quarter that suggests we think of ourselves as lighthouses and not life boats.I often wonder if the healers of this world have been over functioning. I think we have a tendency to try to do too much of the healing for others when we might need to remember each person has a journey of their own. Perhaps we can let your Light shine so others can see your love while remaining centered and solid, like the light house that withstands many a storm. I am also reminded of the saying, “You don’t need to set yourself on fire to keep others warm.” How do you plan to let your light shine? What holds you back?

I believe Marianne Williamson is right when she says, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, nor our Darkness, that most frightens us.” What is it that keeps us from allowing our Lights to be completely lit. Many of us sang a little song when we were young….”This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. Hide it under a bushel, NO. I’m gonna let it shine.”

As our beacons of light, shining from our hearts, bring others to the labyrinth, we can help to illuminate this cloudy world. Thank you for all you do!

GHR 2017 Q2: Love/Light

Dear Labyrinth Facilitators and Healers,

The focus for this Spring quarter of the GHR is Light. I have to admit that it was set to be Wisdom and at the last minute, Jo Ann Mast and I felt sure that Light was more appropriate. Not just the idea of shining light for others—or even reflecting it— but also to BE Lighter. The world feels heavy now for many reasons.

When I introduced the GHR in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina our responses were to disasters and other global events that needed healing….one at a time. Now it seems we are hearing events everyday that could warrant a Global Healing Response. (As I write this I am hearing news of the chemical attack in Syria where many of the victims are children.) That realization feels heavy to me. Thankfully, we have our GHR yearly theme and focus to use continually and the world has folks like you to offer modes of Healing, Centering, and Sacred Spaces. Thank you for all you do.

As always, our intention is that these materials will help you plan an intentional labyrinth walk that when joined by others doing the same thing globally will have a unified effect of Healing for our world.

In Light and Love,

Ellen Bintz Meuch

To be the light and project the light

To love to overflow with Spirit.”
